Educational Affiliations
Halifax Regional has historically maintained strong relationships with many health professional schools and programs, and provides clinical experience to approximately 65 students annually through its affiliation with the NEWH Consortium, composed of the community colleges in Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson and Halifax counties in North Carolina. The Medical Center receives over 55 nursing and nursing assistant students from Halifax Community College, as well as students in respiratory therapy, radiology technology, operating room technology and medical laboratory technology from the other community colleges in the NEWH Consortium. We also provide clinical experience to pharmacy students from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and to dietary students from East Carolina University and four area high school’s health occupations students.
Through its affiliation with Area L AHEC, the Medical Center provides clinical training for all levels of medical students, interns and residents from several medical schools, including East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University and others.
Halifax Regional, through providing quality assurance and medical direction services, sponsors rescue squads for Halifax Emergency Medical Service Authority, Warrenton Rescue Squad, Scotland Neck Rescue Squad and Enfield Rescue Squad.

- Halifax Regional has achieved the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Patient Safety and Quality of Care.
- Halifax Regional was rated in Consumer Reports for our surgical outcomes.
- Roanoke Clinic has been named a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
- The Birthing Center has achieved North Carolina Maternity Center’s Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation.
- The Joint Care Center has achieved The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for hip and knee replacement.
- First in the nation to complete radiography to preserve tissue on a medical examiners case
Accreditations and Memberships
Halifax Regional is fully and unconditionally accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Medical Center is fully licensed by the State of North Carolina through the Division of Facility Services of the Department of Health and Human Services as an acute care general hospital.
The Medical Center is certified for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories at the Medical Center are accredited by the College of American Pathologists, and the Blood Bank is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks. The Medical Center’s mammography department is accredited by the American College of Radiology. In addition, the Health Care Financing Administration has awarded Halifax Regional a Certificate of Accreditation under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
The Medical Center is a contracting hospital with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and is a member of the North Carolina Hospital Association and its rural, private nonprofit and psychiatric constituency sections, and is also a member of the American Hospital Association.
