Sleep Conditions/The Sleep Lab
Nearly 50 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep conditions, many undiagnosed.
A sleep disorder is any condition that affects your ability to have a restful night’s sleep. Sleep problems harm your quality of life and may impact your health with such consequences as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression.
The Sleep Lab, located on the fourth floor at Halifax Regional, is staffed by a physician board certified in sleep medicine and experienced technologists who understand your disorders and are committed to developing a program to restore a good night’s sleep.
Patients referred to HRMC for sleep studies will stay in the Sleep Lab with hotel-like accommodations. The Sleep Lab employs the latest in technology to study a patient’s brain waves, eye and body movements, oxygen levels and more while in the different stages of the sleep process.
Patients can benefit from sleep medicine through the diagnosis of disorders such as:
- Insomnia
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Restless leg syndrome (RLS)
- Narcolepsy
- Circadian rhythm disorders
